5 Great Tips to Make Piano Learning Easy and Fun
Piano is a great instrument to learn and play. Its sound is sweet and soothing and you get a great versatility in terms of songs you can play. However, many hobbyist pianists feel that learning to play the piano is intimidating and difficult. But don’t worry, here are a few tips with which you’ll be able to play the songs you want, on piano.
1. Give At Least 20 Minutes for Practice
Just like anything else, learning to play the piano is a thing you can master with practice. But you should give at least 20 minutes every day for practice and make a resolution not to miss those 20 minutes. Here it doesn’t mean that you should practice only for 20 minutes. The longer you practice, the better it is for you. So, if on a particular day, you get more time, devote it for practice.
2. Avoid Long Practice Sessions
You may find this daunting as it’s contradictory with what we said in the first tip. However, what we mean is that if on a particular day, you get more time, you should practice during that time; but remember that little and regular is the key. So, you should try to divide this time into 20-minute bits and take rest in between. Remember that even professional pianists who practice 6 to 8 hours every day, cannot remain at the piano for more than 40 minutes at a time. They take regular breaks and come back refreshed to start practicing again. So, if you get tired after practicing, don’t feel ashamed. Take a break and start afresh.
3. Play Along With Music
A great way to learn as well as practice playing piano is to listen to your favorite songs and playing along. To start with, listen and play with easy songs and try to replicate the chords and melody. This will help you build your technique and timing.
4. Break Arrangements into Small Pieces
It’s highly impossible, if you’re a beginner, that you can master an arrangement the very first time you play it. Hence, rather than taking on the whole piece, break it down into small, manageable pieces. Based on your ability, this can be one measure or one page. Whatever you and your teacher think is achievable for you, set your practice goal and then stick to it.
5. Set Keyboard in a Prominent Place
Setting keyboard in a prominent place like the dining room or living room where you can access it easily will help you remember to do your practice. Many learners set keyboard out of sight with the intention of getting around to practice one day soon. But this actually can make you forget to practice.
We hope that these tips will make your piano learning easy and fun. Happy learning!
